Frequently asked questions
What data is needed to get the most accurate quote for preparing a soil investigation report?
In order to provide the most cost-effective yet comprehensive quote, we need to know, if possible, the parameters of the planned facility/building (e.g., layout size, number of levels) and the characteristics of the design area (e.g., current development, vegetation, slope conditions).
How is a soil investigation report prepared?
Following our agreement, we will arrive at the site at an agreed time to carry out explorations (borings, soundings, foundation excavations). Soil and groundwater samples taken from the borings are transported to our laboratory, and after performing the necessary tests, we process the available data (field experiences, laboratory results, parameters of the planned facility, literature data, etc.) and prepare the expert opinion based on these.
What does the soil investigation report contain
In the soil investigation report, we present the geological, soil, and groundwater conditions characteristic of the area, and in the geotechnical design proposals that form part of the expert opinion, we provide the soil physical parameters necessary for the design, as well as recommendations on the method and depth of foundation, and the method and possibilities for any excavation shoring and dewatering.
What does the soil and groundwater contamination preliminary study contain?
During the study, we take soil and groundwater samples on-site, which we have analyzed in an accredited laboratory, primarily for the most frequently occurring components (TPH, PAH, BTEX, metals). In the documentation, we provide the values of the measured concentrations and compare them with the limit values in the relevant regulation, and determine whether contamination can be detected in the area for the given components.
What kind of foundation designs do you prepare?
We design foundations for all types of structures, from family houses to large industrial halls and skyscrapers. Our main specialization is deep foundation design, including micropiles, piles, and diaphragm wall foundations.
What kind of excavation shoring designs do you prepare?
We undertake the design of support for excavations ranging from a few meters deep to depths of more than 10 meters. Starting from simple free-slope retention, we design nailed shotcrete support, sheet pile walls, diaphragm walls, and pile walls for excavation shoring, with anchoring or bracing if necessary. During design, the main aspect is ensuring the stability of the surroundings with the most efficient, cost-optimized technical solution.
What is jet-grouting?
Jet-grouting is a highly efficient technology often used to deepen the foundation level of existing buildings. With this technology, independent foundation bodies, underground waterproof walls can be made, or it can be used, for example, to make spaced pile walls waterproof. The essence of the process is that cement grout is injected into the soil at high pressure, and by mixing it with the soil, a weak soil-concrete body is practically created. Among other things, the advantage of the technology is that foundation strengthening can be carried out without exposing the foundation body, groundwater does not affect the execution, and the material of the foundation body can also be reinjected. After drilling down to the planned depth, the injection material exiting the drill string at high pressure creates a soil-concrete body of approximately circular cross-section during continuous rotation and lifting of the string. The diameter can be varied depending on the soil, pressure, lifting speed, and injection technology, typically 60-120 cm.
Why is the condition survey important?
For new investments, before the start of construction (especially in densely built-up areas), it is important to document the condition of surrounding buildings and roads so that any damage caused during construction can be clearly identified later. Condition recording in buildings is done with photographic documentation and logging, for roads and outer areas primarily with video.
